Daily Reading on the Financial Markets: 3/18/13

Much has been said and written about the financial asset tax being considered in Cyprus, and I will probably pen my own commentary on the subject, but here are some thoughts on the unfair and self-defeating nature of the idea from the Economist.

More thoughts, from Charles Wyplosz of voxeu, on the potentially catastrophic effects of the move as the EU mounts new blunders upon old ones.

Tim Duy at Fed Watch on the ongoing Central Bank “assault on Common Sense.”

This is a great story about an awesome idea from group called “Strike Debt.”  They buy emergency room debt on pennies-for-the-Dollar from healthcare insurance companies and forgive the debt.  What an awesome charitable idea.  Where’s my checkbook?
